PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Castleton men's soccer team traveled to New York to take on Plattsburgh State Wednesday night, falling 5-0 to the Cardinals in their first road test of the season.
Plattsburgh State (3-0) controlled play from kickoff, but Spartan goalkeeper
Andres Soto-Burgos did well to keep them out, saving each of the first four shots the Cardinals got on frame. But in the 17

Another goal in the 28
th minute doubled the Cardinals lead to two, and at the halftime whistle it was Plattsburgh holding the advantage both on the scoreboard and in shots, outpacing the Spartans 11-0 in that category after one.
The onslaught of shots from Plattsburgh continued into the second — Soto-Burgos tacked on his sixth save of the afternoon before being subbed out for
Jonathan Maul — but goals in the 63
rd, 70
th, and 87
th minutes put the Cardinals up 5-0 and handed Castleton their second loss of the season.
The next chance for the Spartans to earn their first win of the year comes Friday, September 9 when they return home to host Eastern Nazarene College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
