PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Castleton men's soccer team traveled to New York to take on Plattsburgh State Wednesday night, falling 5-0 to the Cardinals in their first road test of the season.
 
Plattsburgh State (3-0) controlled play from kickoff, but Spartan goalkeeper Andres Soto-Burgos did well to keep them out, saving each of the first four shots the Cardinals got on frame. But in the 17^th minute, on their sixth shot of the half, Plattsburgh found paydirt to take the early lead.
 
Another goal in the 28^th minute doubled the Cardinals lead to two, and at the halftime whistle it was Plattsburgh holding the advantage both on the scoreboard and in shots, outpacing the Spartans 11-0 in that category after one.
 
The onslaught of shots from Plattsburgh continued into the second — Soto-Burgos tacked on his sixth save of the afternoon before being subbed out for Jonathan Maul — but goals in the 63^rd, 70^th, and 87^th minutes put the Cardinals up 5-0 and handed Castleton their second loss of the season.
 
The next chance for the Spartans to earn their first win of the year comes Friday, September 9 when they return home to host Eastern Nazarene College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
