PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Castleton women's tennis team continued their three-game road trip with a match against Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon, falling 9-0 to the reigning conference champions.
The afternoon's match opened up with doubles play, in which
Madelyn Nonni and
Megan Brier fell in straight sets on Court #3 before the Anchorwomen (3-0, 2-0 LEC) earned 8-1 wins on first and second courts to jump out to the 3-0 lead.
The Spartans (1-5, 0-3 LEC) continued to battle in singles play, with each player winning at least one set in their respective matches, but decisive wins across the board handed Rhode Island the 9-0 win, making it just the second time a team has swept Castleton this year.
The Spartans get a short break before their next match against NVU-Johnson scheduled for Thursday, September 29. Opening serve is at 4 p.m.
