Harris and Rubocki Log Hat Tricks, Field Hockey Blasts UMass Dartmouth

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton field hockey team utilized a pair of hat tricks to pace a 9-0 rout of UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium.

Emily Harris and Tessa Rubocki each scored three goals to earn hat tricks while Kaitlin Bardellini, Amelia Wilson, and Chance Jaquin found their ways onto the scoresheet as well. Jess Smithson and Harris picked up two dimes apiece as Wilson collected one assist. The Spartans (3-3, 2-0 LEC) out-shot the Corsairs (2-2, 0-1 LEC) 27-5 with over half of the home team's attempts being on target. The shutout is Castleton's second of the season with both coming on home turf.

After scoring twice at RPI on Wednesday, Harris picked up where she left off and put the Spartans ahead with a fifth-minute goal. The ball remained in Castleton's half for most of the first half as the Corsairs were shotless for all 30 minutes. The Spartans took full advantage of their defensive prowess, burying six scores in the second period. Harris scored twice more to polish off the hat trick as Rubocki got hers started with two. Jaquin tapped in the second goal of her career, then Bardellini ended the half by finishing a long pass from Wilson to make it 7-0 at the break.

Three minutes into the second half, Wilson knocked in her first goal of the season and second score of her career after a duo of corners. The Corsairs got the ball moving toward Castleton keeper Zoe Martin as the third quarter wore on, but nothing found the net. Rubocki, after resting for the entirety of the third period, re-entered with nine minutes left and scored on a rebound 66 seconds later as the senior completed her first career hat trick. Martin collected saves in both of the final periods for her second clean sheet while Rubocki set career-highs for goals, shots, and points.

The Spartans have a quick turnaround, traveling to New England College tomorrow for a Sunday afternoon match with the Pilgrims. Pass-back is slated for 3 p.m.
