LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team handled NVU-Lyndon in their season-opening match Thursday afternoon, taking all but one contest in an 8-1 victory on the road.
The Spartans (1-0) kicked off the day with a 3-0 sweep on doubles courts. Wins on Court #2 from
Megan Brier and
Stella Forte, and Court #3 from
Pearl Bellomo and
Kayon Morgan set up Castleton with the 2-0 advantage, before
Makayla Boisvert and
Madelyn Nonni put together an 8-3 in on Court #1 to complete the sweep.
The Spartans remained dominant on singles courts, spearheaded by a win in straight sets by Bellomo on sixth singles to give them the 8-0 advantage, but a three-set grudge match saw Brier drop Castleton's lone match of the afternoon on second singles, handing the Spartans the 8-1 victory.
Castleton is back in action Sunday, September 4 for their home-opener against Russell Sage College. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
