RUTLAND, Vt. – The Castleton men's tennis team hosted UMass Boston in an LEC contest Thursday afternoon, falling 8-1 to the preseason favorites at home.
The Spartans (2-7, 0-4 LEC) fell in straight sets on first, second and third doubles to give the Beacons (6-3, 3-0 LEC) the early 3-0 advantage. It looked to be more of the same on singles courts as
Phil Kluge and
Connor Davis fell in straight sets on first and second singles, before
Jahwara Rennalls prevented the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over UMass Boston's Felix Nguyen on sixth singles to give Castleton their lone win of the day.
The senior now boasts three singles wins — the second highest total on the team — and joins
Miguel Almirall Perez and
Ugo Roik as the only players with records above .500.
The Spartans will look to bounce back Saturday, April 23 with an LEC matchup against Salem State. Opening serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
