CASTLETON, Vt – Just one day after completing a come-from-behind victory against LEC foe Plymouth State, the Castleton men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Trinity College in front of the home crowd Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans (4-8-2, 2-3-1 LEC) were outshot 15-5 and 10-1 in shots on goal by the final whistle.
Jonathan Maul made his fourth start of the year, allowing three goals and making seven saves in the tough loss. Castleton also hosted its 10
th annual Grassroot Soccer Fundraiser event during the game, with proceeds going toward educating and inspiring youth in developing countries.
The Bantams (1-8-3, 0-7-1 NESCAC) put the pressure on early in Sunday's contest, forcing Maul to make a trio of saves early before they finally broke through on a penalty kick at the 27-minute mark. Trinity would double their lead in the 39
th minute, putting themselves ahead 2-0 heading into the break.
Momentum continued to side with the Bantams to start the second half before they made it a 3-0 game with 20 minutes to go. Castleton created a pair of chances from
Charlie Cisneros and
Stanley Andersen, but neither found the back of the net, ending the game in a 3-0 loss for the Spartans.
Next up for Castleton is a non-conference matchup with Albertus Magnus set for Wednesday, October 19. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
