Men's Basketball Falls to UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Castleton University men's basketball team dropped a Little East Conference contest on Saturday, falling in road action to UMass Dartmouth by a final score of 90-68.
 
The Spartans fall to 5-9 on the season and 0-5 in LEC play, while UMass Dartmouth improves to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the league. Castleton shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the floor, but was only 29.4 percent from three (5-of-17). The Spartans also made 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. UMass Dartmouth shot 52.2 percent (35-of-67) from the floor and 34.5 percent from three (10-of-29) while hitting 10-of-15 at the line. The Corsairs held a 41-30 edge on the glass and turned the ball over only eight times while Castleton had 12 turnovers. UMass Dartmouth converted the Spartan miscues into 18 points.
 
Oluwadare Sowunmi had a career-high 14 points to lead the Spartans in scoring, while Johnny Torrence and Joe Alamprese added 11 points apiece to join him in double figures. Darrell Hardge had a team-high eight rebounds and four assists. Mu Moore had seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
 
Adam Seablom dropped a game-high 23 points, with Marcus Azor joining him in the 20-point club as well. Azor had an even 20 in addition to his 10 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple-double. Jackson Zancan had 19 points and Jarron Santos added 15.
 
The Corsairs scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back, leading 25-9 just past the midway point of the first half. Castleton bounced back with a 9-0 run that spanned two minutes, cutting the deficit back to single digits, 27-20. A later 9-0 run by the Corsairs extended the lead back to double figures, 38-22, and a seven-point run to close the half sent the home side to the locker room leading 47-27.
 
The Spartans opened the second half on a 6-2 run, but UMass Dartmouth again responded with a lopsided run of 11-2 that put them on top 76-45. Castleton had its own 11-2 run later in the half, bringing the deficit back to 85-61, and the two sides traded blows until the game ended at 90-68.
 
Castleton returns to the court on Wednesday night at home against Keene State. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. No fans are allowed at this time, but the game will be live streamed at littleeast.tv/castleton.
