CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton men's soccer team took a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Clark University Sunday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium.
The Cougars (2-1-0) struck first in the seventh minute as Alex Maiorano found the back of the net off a feed from Brian Brennan. Maiorano would notch his second goal of the afternoon in the 20th minute to give Castleton (1-1-0) a 2-0 deficit. Clark would largely control play until the end of the first half. Goalkeeper
Andres Soto-Burgos made a key save at the conclusion of the first half to limit the damage to two goals.
Ezekiel Palmer's goal in the 83rd minute gave the visitors a commanding 3-0 lead.
Gavin Gilman registered Castleton's only shot on goal. As a team, they attempted six total shots. Soto-Burgos made four saves before
Jonathan Maul entered in relief in the 83rd minute.
The Spartans return to action Wednesday, September 8 for non-conference meeting with Plattsburgh State. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
