PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Castleton University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets on Saturday, losing to Rhode Island College by a final score of 3-0 in Little East Conference action.
The Spartans (3-7, 0-2 LEC) dropped the match by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-20, giving RIC (5-5, 1-1 LEC) a run for its money in each set. RIC held a 26-22 edge in kills, a 5-1 edge in aces and a 38-36 edge in digs. Castleton had a 19-18 edge in assists and 11-6 edge in blocks.
Lizzie Goodrich led the Spartans with nine kills, hitting .450 on the day while added three digs and taking part in three total blocks.
Hailey Martinovich added six kills, six digs and three total blocks.
Bre MacDuff and
Maddie Delsignore split setting duties, with MacDuff collecting 10 assists and Delsignore eight. MacDuff and Delsignore also had the two highest block totals on the team with nine and eight, respectively.
Amelia Murphy had 11 kills and 10 digs for the Anchorwomen, while Aubrey St. Onge had nine assists and Sydney Green eight. Green and Wynter Conlon also had eight digs each.
Castleton returns to action Wednesday night at NVU-Lyndon for a non-conference matchup at 6 p.m.
