Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Shut Out on The Road, Fall 3-0 to Eastern Connecticut

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Castleton field hockey team came up empty in their matchup against the Warriors Saturday afternoon, getting blanked by their conference foes 3-0 away from home.

Defense was the focal point in this one early on, with the Spartans (3-6, 1-2 LEC) allowing just four shots in the entire first half, with only one forcing goalie Hannah Frittenburg to make a save. But after a scoreless first 30 minutes, the constant pressure applied by the Eastern Connecticut forwards proved too much in the second, and the Warriors (5-1, 3-0 LEC) would find paydirt 42 minutes into the game.

After denying goals on the Warriors' first nine penalty corners of the game, a shot by Brianna Nolan off their tenth attempt finally got through the Spartans' defense and into the back of the cage to break the tie and put Eastern Connecticut up 1-0.

Nolan would double her tally three minutes into the fourth quarter to make it 2-0 before Kaylee Drobish scored her first with one minute remaining, giving the Warriors their third goal of the day and handing Castleton the loss.

The Spartans were held without a shot for the first time all year against a tough Eastern Connecticut defense, and will hope to get the offense rolling again with the remainder of their games set against conference opponents.

Their next opportunity to do so will come Saturday, October 2 when Castleton is back home to face off against Western Connecticut State, with first pass set for 1 p.m.
