FARMINGTON, Maine - The Castleton men's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision at UMaine-Farmington Sunday afternoon. The loss comes just a day after the Spartans defeated Southern Maine in the Little East Conference opener.
Adolphe Alfani netted Castleton's lone goal in the 78th minute. The Spartans (2-4-0, 1-0-0 LEC) trailed 2-0 prior to the freshman's tally as the Beavers (4-1-0) scored in the fifth minute and the 12th minute. Alfani, who earned his first career goal a week prior, notched his second. Sophomore
Charlie Cisneros was credited with an assist, marking the first helper of his career.
Goalkeeper
Jonathan Maul made his first-ever start and came up with three saves, matching a career high he set as a freshman.
Castleton only mustered two shots on target against a tough Beaver defense - Alfani's goal and another from
Jacob Henderson, who scored the game-winner in the 89th minute against Southern Maine.
The Spartans are set to play another non-conference match Tuesday, September 21 at Nichols. They'll return home to face Rhode Island College in an LEC contest Saturday, September 25.
