WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Castleton University women's soccer team, earning its second straight victory, defeated Eastern Connecticut State 1-0 in a Little East Conference (LEC) contest Friday afternoon at McCarthy Field.

Brytney Moore in the ninth minute of the first half sealed the win for the Spartans (4-1, 4-1 LEC) as the Warriors (2-3, 2-3 LEC) were unable to equalize. Moore, who is second on the team in points, capitalized on a goal-scoring opportunity as she buried a shot past goaltender Rachel Hughes.
Alex Benfatti earned the win in goal for the Spartans as she recorded a game-high five saves. Benfatti, who recorded her third shutout of the season, finishes the 2020-21 season with a perfect 4-0 record while almost equaling her career total in saves with 24.
With the season officially coming to a close, the Spartans finished tied with Keene State at the top of the Little East Conference standings with a 4-1 conference record. The Spartans will also bring back a majority of the roster from this past season as 16 members will be slotted to return this coming fall.
