Both sides failed to get on the board in the opening quarter, as the game remained scoreless through the first 15 minutes. Castleton broke into the scoring column first, as LaBonte struck just 1:40 into the second quarter. Eastern Connecticut answered four minutes later, however, as Cardoza scored his first of the day to level the score at 1-1. Cardoza found twine again late in the quarter, giving ECSU a 2-1 lead with 3:49 remaining before the break. Two more quick goals from the sticks of Haggerty and Stein gave the Warriors a 4-1 lead at the break.

Eastern Connecticut scored the first two goals out of halftime, pushing the lead to 6-1, before Grabher beat Farrell between the legs to make it a 6-2 game with 9:13 left in the third quarter. The Warriors responded with two more third-quarter goals to make it 8-2 through three, before tacking on three more goals in the final frame to end the game with an 11-2 victory.
