CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's lacrosse team fell to Little East Conference foe Keene State on Wednesday afternoon in a snow-plagued battle at Dave Wolk Stadium by a final score of the 16-4.

The contest was called off after reaching a reasonable point of conclusion with just under 12 minutes remaining in the contest, as snow accumulation on the field created issues for players, officials and game staff. Keene State (5-2, 5-1 LEC) held a 36-22 edge in shots on goal, with a 29-10 edge in shots on goal over the Spartans (3-7, 2-4 LEC). Keene State also held a 34-22 edge in ground balls, and committed 20 turnovers, while Castleton had 37 miscues. The Spartans were dominant on the draw control in the contest, winning 15-of-21 draws in the game.

Madelyn Cote and
Kimberly McCarthy scored two goals apiece to provide the offense for Castleton, while
Maddie Brasser and
Ryanne Mix each had one assist. Mix also led the team with eight draw controls and had four ground balls.
Aubra Linn caused a team-high three turnovers and had three ground balls, while
Lacey Greenamyre had two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Raven Payne led the team with five ground balls and amassed 13 saves in the game's 48-plus minutes.

Keene State was powered by nine points from Brigid Casey and eight from Ali Daisy, as Casey racked up four goals and five assists while Daisy compiled six goals and two assists for the Owls. Haile Ratajack had two goals and an assist, while four others scored for the Owls. Ratajack picked up eight ground balls and caused three turnovers, though Shannon Weisensee's nine ground balls led all players as did Daisy's four caused turnovers. Haley Terva made six saves in the win in goal.

Castleton notched the first goal of the game, as Brasser found a wide-open Cote on the doorstep for an easy score and a 1-0 lead just 1:39 into the game. Keene responded four minutes later to knot the score at 1-1, when Casey potted her first of the day. Casey's score was the first of seven consecutive Owl goals in an 11-minute span, as Keene raced out to a 7-1 lead. McCarthy stopped that run, deflecting a pass from Mix into the goal and making it a 7-2 game with 12:52 remaining in the half. The Owls scored four more goals over the next six minutes, however, earning a nine-goal lead with less than three minutes remaining in the opening stanza. McCarthy notched her second of the game to make it 11-3. After a Keene goal made it 12-3, the Spartans got a last-second goal from Cote before the half, as the rookie found the back of the net on a last-ditch effort with 0.3 seconds showing on the clock.

The Owls scored the only four goals of the second half, cementing an insurmountable lead before the game reached a reasonable point of conclusion at the 48-minute mark of play.

The Spartans are back in action on Saturday when they host WestConn at Dave Wolk Stadium in the regular-season finale. Game time is slotted for 6:30 p.m.
