STOWE, Vt. -- The Castleton University men's tennis team dropped a 7-2, non-conference decision to Northern Vermont-Lyndon Tuesday afternoon at Topnotch Tennis Center.
With the match being was moved indoors due to weather, the Hornets jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. As both first and third doubles suffered losses,
Connor Davis and
Jason Lipscomb gutted out a victory at the second doubles flight, defeating Quinlan Peer and Zach Falkenburg 8-7 (7-4).
As the match headed into singles play, Lipscomb came out victorious once again, defeating Ken Niemann 6-0, 6-3 at third singles. Despite earning three games in the first set,
Rowan Kidder dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Patrick Wickstrom at first singles, while Davis fell 6-2, 6-0 to Neal Mulligan at second singles.
Both
Alijah Seymour and
Rafael Robles played an eight-game pro set at fifth and sixth singles as Seymour fell 8-3 to Peer while Robles suffered an 8-0 loss to Garrick Webster.
Castleton returns to action Friday, April 23, as the Spartans take on Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference contest at the Castleton Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
