RUTLAND, Vt. -- The Castleton University men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 Little East Conference (LEC) decision to Western Connecticut State Saturday afternoon at the Grand Slam Tennis Center.
The Spartans (0-6, 0-3 LEC) fell behind early after doubles play as the Colonials (2-1, 2-1 LEC) swept through and took a commanding 3-0 lead. Competing for the first time together at the first doubles flight,
Luke Cohen and
Rowan Kidder suffered an 8-1 loss to Will Hogan and Sebastian Frisch.
Jason Lipscomb and
Connor Davis stole two games despite falling 8-2 to Kevin Tenesaca and Jay Kilcourse at second doubles, while
Alijah Seymour and
Rafael Robles fell 8-0 at the third doubles flight. Â
As the match entered singles play, the Colonials swept through and took all six matches. Davis was the most successful as he fought hard before falling at second singles, 6-3, 6-2 to Frisch, while Seymour won three games in the first set before dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Mitchell Kindred at fifth singles. Â
Castleton returns to action Tuesday, April 20, as it travels up north to take on Northern Vermont-Lyndon at 3:30 p.m.
