NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- The Castleton University women's ice hockey dropped its second straight game to Norwich University as the Cadets defeated the Spartans 2-0 at Kreitzberg Arena Friday evening.

After a scoreless first period, the Cadets (2-0-0) opened up the scoring early in the second period. With the Spartans (3-3-1) unable to stay out of the penalty box, Ally LaGue tallied a power-play goal on a redirected initial shot from Nikki LaGue to give the Cadets a 1-0 advantage. The Cadets tallied a second power-play goal just 47 seconds later as KC Herne was able to slip one past goaltender
Kirsten DiCicco to solidify the win.

With the Cadets putting pressure on the entire game, DiCicco finished the contest with 37 saves. The freshman, playing in her fifth game this season, has accumulated 123 total saves.

The Spartans finished with 12 shots on goal as
Casey Traill,
Riley Nichols, and
Emily Harris all had two apiece.

Castleton returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, March 6, as it takes on Norwich at Spartan Arena. The Spartans will be partnering once again with the Rutland Regional Medical Center's Foley Cancer Center to raise awareness and funding for breast cancer research with the 13th-annual Pink the Rink event, with the puck drop slated for 1 p.m.
