WARREN, Vt. – The Castleton University men's alpine ski team returned to the slopes of Sugarbush Resort on Wednesday, taking part in a pair of FIS Slalom races.

Lorenzo Mencaccini was the top Spartan on the leaderboard in both events, logging a pair of top-10 finishes while Paul Rechberger added a pair of top-20 finishes of his own. Christopher Kerven also finished inside the top-15 in the day's second race.

Mencaccini opened Wednesday with a sixth-place finish, posting times of 44.26 and 47.44 for a combined time of 1:31.70. Rechberger impressed in the opening race as well, notching a 16th-place time of 1:32.78 after runs of 45.10 and 47.68.

Race No. 2 on the day saw Mencaccini grab a fourth-place finish, posting impressive runs of 38.50 and 45.99 for a combined time of 1:24.49. Kerven finished 15th in the race, posting the fastest second run of the day for a combined time of 1:26.40. After an opening time of 41.48, Kerven laid down a second-run time of 44.92 to move 12 spots up the leaderboard into the top-15. Rechberger rounded out Castleton's finishers in the second race with his second top-20 of the day, posting times of 40.58 and 45.93 for a total time of 1:26.51.

The fresh snow that came on Tuesday proved difficult for a majority of the field to handle, as the first race saw 49 entrants in the 100-man field fail to finish the event, while the second race saw 43 do the same.

The Spartans return to action Monday, February 8, when they travel to Stowe for a pair of FIS Giant Slalom races.
