Castleton got on the board first with a three from the right wing by Magro, but UMass Dartmouth quickly answered on the other end to make it 3-2. A layup by Raiche made it 5-2, but the Corsairs answered with an 8-0 run to make it a 10-5 game in favor of the guests. Castleton drew back to within one point, 10-9, after jumpers from Turner and Magro found the bottom of the basket. A three by Donovan pushed the lead back to four, but Raiche responded on the ensuing possession to keep the deficit at just one point with 4:52 to go in the opening quarter. After the first quarter media timeout, Castleton took the lead back for a brief moment when Raiche sunk a layup, but Donovan responded on the other end with a layup of her own to put UMass Dartmouth ahead 15-14. The basket by Donovan kick-started an 11-0 run that ended with the Corsairs on top, 24-14. Castleton scored the final four points of the quarter, as Bose made a layup and two free throws to cut the gap to 24-18 after one quarter.
