HENNIKER, N.H. - Less than 24 hours after a narrow overtime defeat, the Castleton men's hockey team headed to Lee Clement Arena to take on New England College for the second time in as many days.
Kyle Kazeroid,
Nick Gravina, and
Glenn Wiswell each scored, but it wasn't enough as the Pilgrims took an 8-3 victory.
New England College (3-3) poured in three first period goals. Castleton (0-4) netted one thanks to Kazeroid on a late power play opportunity. It was the first goal of the junior's 2020-21 campaign. The power play unit has scored in each of the last three contests.
In the second period, Connor Inger scored his second goal of the afternoon to give the hosts a 4-1 lead. Trailing 5-1, Castleton scored twice to get back in the game.
Late in the penultimate period,
Conner Ladabouche earned a clean faceoff win, kicking it back Gravina, who buried a slapshot. In the opening minutes of the third, Wiswell extended his goal-scoring streak to three games. Inger made it a hat-trick not long after and the Pilgrims wouldn't look back en route to the weekend sweep.
Brandon Collett got the starting nod and recorded 35 saves.
Kyle Alaverdy entered the game with just over 10 minutes remaining and stopped 11 shots, allowing one goal.
The Spartans return home on Wednesday, March 3 to take on Norwich. The newly-added contest is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
