RUTLAND Vt. - The Castleton men's hockey team took a 5-0 defeat to Norwich on Wednesday night at Spartan Arena. The Cadets used five different scorers and two power play tallies to claim the road victory.
Norwich (1-0) posted two goals in the opening period, with one coming in the first two minutes of the contest. They'd score again just a couple minutes later, but the Spartans held them off until the third period.
Kyle Alaverdy was only asked to make three saves in the second session as Castleton (0-5) largely managed the pace. The final period would feature three Cadet goals to sink the Spartans.Â
Going the full 60 minutes, Norwich netminder Drennen Atherton earned the shutout. It marked the 10th straight game in which the team hasn't allowed a goal. The streak dates back to January 2020. On the other side, Alaverdy made his second start of the year and recorded 22 saves.
Offensively,
Nick Gravina and
Alex Maunula each attempted five shots on goal to lead the team. The total sided with Norwich, 26-22.Â
Castleton will host Norwich once again on Friday, March 5. Puck drop is set for 5 PM.
