JEFFERSONVILLE, Vt. – The Castleton University men's alpine ski team battled snow, wind and ice on Monday as it took to the slopes of Smuggler's Notch for a pair of FIS Slalom races.

The group saw steady snowfall on the trails throughout both races, culminating in all five participants for the Spartans logging a DNF result in the second race of the day. In total, just 55 out of 100 participants finished the first race of the day, and only 36 of 100 finished the second race.

Castleton was led by a 21st-place finish from Christopher Kerven in the opening race, while Christian Meyer logged a 40th-place finish as Castleton's only other finisher. Kerven posted times of 53.37 and 48.78 to tally a combined time of 1:42.15. Meyer checked in at 1:51.29 after run times of 57.06 and 54.23.

Lorenzo Mencaccini, Hans Poelmann and Tripp Thomas all competed but registered two DNF results each on the day.

The Spartans are right back in action on Tuesday, once again at Smuggler's Notch, for two more FIS Slalom races.
