PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Castleton University women's basketball team dropped a road contest on Saturday, falling by a final score of 63-38 at Rhode Island College.

The Spartans fall to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in LEC play, with all four losses coming in road contests this season. Rhode Island College remains unbeaten on the year at 7-0 (6-0 LEC). Castleton struggled shooting, making just 15-of-54 on the day (27.8 percent) while RIC knocked down 23-of-49 (46.9 percent). Castleton made 4-of-15 from three (26.7 percent), while the Anchorwomen knocked down 9-of-20 from long range (45.0 percent). Both sides struggled from the free-throw line, with Castleton hitting 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) and RIC making 8-of-20 (40.0 percent). The Anchorwomen also held advantages in rebounds, 39-33, while outscoring Castleton 25-12 off turnovers.

Brooke Raiche led Castleton in scoring with 12 points in addition to five rebounds, while
Elise Magro added 10 points, three boards and two assists.
Taylor Goodell pulled in a team-high eight rebounds, while
Grace Turner added seven boards.

Rhode Island College was led by 22 points from Brooke Young and a double-double from Sophia Guerrier, who dropped 16 points and pulled in 13 rebounds. Guerrier also added a team-high four assists, while Izabelle Booth had seven rebounds for the Anchorwomen.

The two sides traded blows in the opening six minutes of the game, playing to a 7-7 score into the first media timeout. Rhode Island College pulled ahead on a layup from McBorrough, 9-7, following the media timeout and never trailed again. The Anchorwomen led 14-11 after one quarter.

After RIC extended its lead to 20-11 early in the second, Castleton cut into the lead on a three from Bose. The Anchorwomen responded with a three of their own, before adding another to extend the lead to double digits for the first time—26-14. The Spartans ended out the half on a 6-1 run, carrying a 33-22 deficit into the half.

Castleton opened the second half on a 5-0 run, narrowing the gap back to just six points—33-27. Three straight buckets from the Spartans just moments later narrowed the gap to 36-33, but RIC closed out the quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 44-35 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The Anchorwomen buried a trio of threes in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, building their lead to 53-35 before Goodell knocked down a jumper to stop the run. RIC continued to build its lead until the final moments to finish the contest with its 63-38 score.

Castleton returns to action Wednesday night at 6 p.m. when it hosts Keene State at Glenbrook Gym.
