STOWE, Vt. – The Castleton University men's alpine ski team took to the slopes of Stowe Mountain on Monday and Tuesday, battling the elements and difficult courses over the two days.

Monday's FIS Giant Slalom race saw all four Spartan competitors log DNF results—all of which came on the day's second run. In total, 41 racers in the 100-man field failed to finish the event. Lorenzo Mencaccini was in 18th place after the opening run, just 1.21 seconds behind the leader, but was one of 34 victims in the field of a difficult second run on the day.

On Tuesday, the Spartans trekked north for a USSA Giant Slalom race, where Hans Poelmann registered Castleton's only finish. After competing on Monday but not starting his second run, Poelmann laid down a time of 2:11.16 to finish 36th. The senior posted runs of 1:05.96 and 1:05.20.

The Spartans are back on the slopes this Saturday at Burke Mountain for a pair of FIS University GS races.
