Women's Basketball Blows by NVU-Johnson in Granite City Shootout

BARRE, Vt. – The Castleton University women's basketball team cruised to an 80-40 win in the Granite City Shootout on Saturday, besting Northern Vermont University-Johnson at the Barre Auditorium.
 
Ryleigh Coloutti's team-leading 25 points powered Castleton to victory, while Elise Magro and Gwyn Tatton joined her in double figures with 16 points and 13 points respectively. Coloutti had nine rebounds to go with her 25 points, and Magro added five rebounds and five assists. Kelly Vuz scored nine points and hauled in 13 boards, while Delaney Whitehead added nine points and six rebounds.
 
The Spartans (3-2) shot 52.6 percent (34-of-78) from the floor, besting the Badgers who shot just 24.6 percent (17-of-69). Castleton was 7-of-27 (25.9 percent) from three, while holding Johnson to less than 10 percent behind the arc (3-of-33). Castleton controlled the glass 54-32.
 
Johnson was led by 16 points from Paris Atuahene, while Madelyn House and Shaydee Gunnell grabbed a team-high seven rebounds each. Kimora Parker had seven points, but shot just 1-of-13 from three in the contest.
 
Coloutti got off to a hot start, scoring eight points in the first quarter alone as the Spartans ran out to a 28-6 lead after 10 minutes. Johnson hung closer in the second quarter, but six points each in the frame from Coloutti and Magro sent Castleton into the half leading 42-18.
 
The third quarter again had the Badgers play tightly with Castleton, but the Spartans pulled away once more in the final 10 minutes, as Coloutti poured in 11 points in the fourth quarter and Tatton added nine in the frame.
 
The Spartans are back in action Tuesday night at Glenbrook Gym when they host Middlebury College at 7 p.m.
