BOSTON, Mass. - The Castleton women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to UMass Boston Saturday afternoon on the road, concluding the regular season. 

The Beacons (12-5-2, 6-1-1 LEC) controlled play throughout the first half as the Spartans (8-5-4, 4-2-2 LEC) weren't able to muster a shot on goal. Alex Benfatti made four consecutive saves before the hosts tallied their first goal in the 42nd minute. It broke a streak of four consecutive shutouts by Benfatti and the vaunted Spartan defense. 

Rylee Nichols posted Castleton's lone shot on goal in the 60th minute as Caroline Richards made the only Beacon save. 

UMass Boston tacked on a second goal in the 69th minute, giving Mary Jo Murphy a pair of tallies. 

Benfatti notched eight saves, while the Beacons turned to three different goalkeepers. 

With the loss, Castleton is locked into the third seed in the Little East Conference tournament. They'll host Keene State in the LEC Quarterfinals Tuesday evening. Kick-off for the postseason battle at Dave Wolk Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
