WORCESTER, Mass. -- One goal from Nicolle Trivino was all that was needed as the Castleton University women's ice hockey team defeated Becker College 1-0 Wednesday evening at the Worcester Ice Center. With the win tonight, the Spartans finished their non-conference schedule and improve to 10-7-1 while the Hawks fall to 5-8-0. Along with the win tonight, the Spartans have now reached double-digits wins for the second straight season under head coach Mike Venezia and sixth-time overall in program history.

After a scoreless first period in which the Spartans outshot the Hawks 9-5, the Spartans took the lead at the 17:36 mark of the second period. After a Hawks turnover in the neutral zone, Samantha Munroe collected the puck and pushed ahead, finding Samantha Lawler who passed to a wide open Trivino and she buried the shot past goaltender Amber Lee to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. Trivino, who tallied her fifth goal of the season, is now tied with Courtney Gauthier for second on the team in goals scored.

Goaltender Alexis Kalm was once again phenomenal in goal as she collected her second straight shutout victory. After a slow start in the first period, the Hawks applied pressure on the Spartans' defense throughout the second and third periods. Kalm however, tallied nine saves in the second period and 11 in the third as she kept the Hawks off the board.

Kalm also hit a milestone in tonight's contest as she collected her fourth shutout win this season. The senior from Aberdeen, N.C., tallied her 11th career shutout and passed Paula Stephens and is now the program's all-time leader in career shutouts.

Women's ice hockey will return to action Saturday, January 24 as it takes on New England Hockey Conference foe and sixth-ranked Norwich at 4:00 p.m.
