Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. -- The Castleton University women's tennis team took the courts earlier Saturday afternoon as it continued Little East Conference play against Rhode Island College. The Spartans (2-7, 0-5 LEC) put up a valiant effort as they fell 9-0 to the Anchorwomen (9-1, 5-0 LEC).
Starting off with doubles, the Spartans were led by the second flight of Emily Miller and Megan Hunt. The duo was able to take three games as they fell 8-3 to Emily Orticerio and Michaela Burr. Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was Megan Nadler and Regina Marchese dropping an 8-1 decision at first doubles and Alexis Curley and Grace Sharkey falling 8-0 at third doubles.
After falling behind 3-0 after doubles, the Spartans looked to play catchup going into singles play. Nadler won the most games as she took five in a 6-1, 6-4 loss at first singles to Jenna Lisi.
Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans in singles was Miller falling 6-1, 6-1 at second singles, Hunt losing 6-0, 6-0 at third singles, Marchese dropping a 6-1, 6-0 decision at fourth singles, Sharkey falling 6-0, 6-0 at fifth and Curley falling 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles.
Women's tennis will return to action on Wednesday, October 2 as it travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Worcester State in a Little East Conference matchup starting at 3:30 p.m.
