Women's Tennis Upended by Western Connecticut State, Concludes 2019 Season

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Castleton University women's tennis team traveled to take on Western Connecticut State Saturday afternoon as it concluded the 2019 season. The Spartans dropped an 8-1 decision to the Colonials despite a singles win from Alexis Curley. 

With the loss today, the Spartans finished the season at 3-10 (1-8 LEC) while the Colonials finished the season at 6-9 (4-5 LEC) and collected the sixth seed in the upcoming Little East Conference (LEC) tournament. 

The Spartans fell behind early after a hard-fought battle at doubles. Curley and Grace Sharkey collected the most wins at third doubles as they fell 8-3 to Lesley Coronel and Sarah Silva. Megan Nadler and Megan Hunt fell 8-2 at first doubles while Emily Miller and Aliza Bogner dropped an 8-1 decision at second doubles. 

Entering singles action, the Spartans looked to play catchup. Curley would collect the only win at singles as she tallied a 6-0, 4-6, 11-9 win over Gabby Orsini at sixth singles. With the win today, the senior finished her career with 15 singles wins. 

Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was Nadler falling 6-4, 6-0 to Emma Chapman at first singles, Miller falling 6-1, 6-2 at second singles to Carole Allers, Hunt dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision at third singles, Bogner losing 6-1, 6-0 to Pooja Dudhedia at fourth singles, and Sharkey falling 6-3, 6-0 at fifth singles.

Women's tennis will graduate three seniors as it returns five players for the upcoming 2020 season.
