Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University field hockey team dropped a 4-0 contest versus the Oneonta Red Dragons on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 2-5 on the year, while Oneonta improves to 4-2.
Castleton was unable to muster any shots on goal but tallied three total shots in the first half. Of the three, two were off the post. In the latter period, the Spartan offense began to click with seven shots, while four came on goal.
Following the slower first half, in which neither team scored, the Red Dragon offense came alive in the second half. Oneonta scored three goals in less than three minutes, starting in the 45th minute of play.
Carissa Warren started it with a penalty stroke goal to the left of the keeper. Less than a minute later, Nicole Johnston lifted the ball over a group of players to make it 2-0. Allyson Bilow finished the three-score spurt with a redirect to the left.
In goal, Leah Holland recorded the start. She faced 10 shots on goal, making six saves in 70 minutes of play. Danell Jones improved to 3-2 – in the cage – for the Red Dragons. She did not face a shot.
Field hockey returns to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as they host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
