Box Score KEENE, N.H. – The Castleton University field hockey team fell victim of a late four-goal rally by the host Keene State Owls on Thursday evening. With the 4-1 loss, the Spartans are now 8-7, while the Owls are 10-5.
In a very defensive-minded game, Castleton got on the board first just prior to halftime to claim a 1-0 advantage. Cydney Jeffrey was on the receiving end of an entry pass from Mariah Linnett and was able to put it past the Owls' keeper.
Earlier in the game in the Spartans first true scoring opportunity, Gabriella Hunt put a shot on goal. However, it was saved.
After Castleton strung together a very strong effort on the defensive front to keep Keene State off the board for the game's first 52-plus minutes, the Owls came alive. The home team notched four goals over a 12-minute span to fend off the upset.
Leah Holland recorded 11 saves in the cage over the game's 70 minutes, including nine in the first half. Megan Ryan aided Holland with a defensive save, as well.
Castleton returns to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday for a major matchup with conference rival Husson University. Senior Day festivities will begin at 11:45 a.m.
