Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton field hockey team lost to Westfield State tonight by a final score of 4-0.
The third-straight loss for Castleton drops the Spartans to 2-4 on the season, while the Westfield State Owls improve to 5-1.
The Owls jumped out to a fast start recording nine of the game's first ten shots, including goals from Megan Evans and Meg Doherty at the 8:31 and 15:35 marks of the first half, respectively. After Doherty notched another goal with just under six minutes to go in the half, Westfield State went into the break leading the Spartans, 3-0.
Castleton added pressure in the second half with shots from Haley Spittle and Sarah Wells, but were held scoreless for the second straight game. Doherty tacked on another goal early in the second half to complete the hat trick en route to the 4-0 victory for the Owls.
Cydney Jeffrey and Rachel Holland also recorded shots in the loss.
Senior Meeghan Doris faced 20 shots and tied a season-high with 16 saves on the night, despite falling to 0-2 on the campaign.
Castleton returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, when the Spartans will travel to Skidmore to face the nationally-ranked Thoroughbreds.
