Spartans Fall to Colby-Sawyer in NEAC East Competition

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team suffered its third loss of the season at the hands of defending conference champion, Colby-Sawyer, by a final score of 9-0.

With the loss, the Spartans drop to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the NEAC East while the Chargers improve to 5-1 and 2-0 in the conference.

The Chargers got out to an early lead in doubles sweeping the board for a 3-0 advantage. Ciara Bannister and Megan Nadler lost their first match of the season by a score of 8-0 before Kirsten Kruk and Kayla Zsido came up short with the same score in second-flight doubles. Jennifer Blay and Monika Plante fell to Lauren Blanchard and Christine Hill of Colby-Sawyer, 8-1, to give the Chargers their comfortable lead heading into singles.

Bannister fell to 3-2 on the season in No. 1 singles after losing in straight sets to Ashley Woodside of the Chargers. Nadler came up short in both sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 before Kruk suffered her first lost in No. 3 singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-3.

The Spartans will finish out the three-game home stand at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they will host Bay Path.
