Spartans Drop Tight Contest at Husson

BANGOR, Maine – The Castleton field hockey team dropped a 6-3 decision on the road at Husson in a North Atlantic Conference East contest on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Spartans fall to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the NAC East, wile Husson moves to 4-3, 2-0.

After Husson recorded two quick goals over the first six minutes of the game, Emily Lowell tallied her team-leading sixth goal of the season to cut the deficit to one at the 10:36 mark of the first half.

Husson tacked on another goal with just under eight minutes to play in the half, giving the Eagles a 3-1 advantage going into the break.

The Eagles scored a quick goal just 51 seconds into the second half, but the Spartans responded with back-to-back goals from Lowell and Rachel Holland. Lowell's second goal of the game was assisted by Sarah Wells before Holland notched her first penalty stroke goal of the season, closing the gap to 4-3 at the 55:31 mark.

That would be as close as the Spartans could get, as Husson scored the final two goals of the game at 57:31 and 65:30 to give secure the 6-3 win for the Eagles.

Lowell finished with two goals to lead the offense for the Spartans, while Cydney Jeffrey and Haley Spittle also recorded shots on goal.

Meeghan Doris made 12 saves on 18 shots in the cage for Castleton, despite falling to 0-4 on the season. 

The Spartans return to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday with a matchup at St. Joseph's.
