Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans put forth their most impressive performance of the year, taking down Southern Vermont 3-0 on Thursday evening in Glenbrook Gym.
Castleton served up a season-high 20 aces along with 23 kills and 42 digs to improve to 2-2 overall. The Mountaineers hit just .036, compared to .145 for the Spartans, and had 44 digs with 22 kills as they dropped to 1-1.
In the first set, the Spartans came out strong and won 25-15. They were even more dominant in the second set, going ahead 24-9 before a late rally allowed Southern Vt. to lose just 25-16. Castleton responded in the final set, capturing it by a 25-17 margin.
Brittany Brayman was all over the court and proved tough for the Mountaineer defense with a career-best ten aces. She also added ten digs and six kills while hitting .316 to set the tone. Kaylee Pratt was impressive, hitting .583 with eight kills and just one error on 12 attempts. Shelby Smyth added seven assists and seven digs while Kristi Lawless chipped in with a career-high seven aces and three digs.
Brin Goldman led her team with ten kills, 14 digs and two aces. Lizzy Bench chipped in with eight digs, three kills and two aces while Alycia Stevens had nine digs and seven kills. Sheilani Kaleopa dished off a team-high 18 assists.
Castleton returns to action on Saturday when they host MCLA and Lyndon in a pair of non-conference matches starting at 12 pm.
