Spartans Fall to Williams 78-56

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Castleton's first-half shooting woes were too much to overcome in the final 20 minutes as the team dropped a 78-56 decision to Williams Tuesday evening. 

The Spartans were outscored by just two points in the second half and shot 39.7 percent from the floor but were outrebounded 35-32 as they dropped to 12-12 on the season. The Ephs, meanwhile, connected on 54.5 percent of their shots and went 12-for-25 from downtown to improve to 15-9 overall. 

Three players scored in double figures for Castleton, led by Carnelius Green who had 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Chad Copeland added 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks while Chad Pulver chipped in with six points and seven rebounds off the bench. 

Williams had four players reach double figures, led by Daniel Wohl with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Hayden Rooke-Ley went 6-for-9 from downtown for 18 points while Cole Teal provided ten points, four rebounds and three steals off the bench. 

The Ephs jumped out to a 16-6 lead and stretched their lead to 27-10 on a three from Wohl at 9:06. Castleton cut the deficit to 13 points two minutes later and the Spartans trailed just 35-21 with 4:47 left in the half. However, Williams ended the half on an 11-5 run to take a 46-26 lead at the break. 

Early in the second half Castleton went on a 6-0 run, capped off by a Coloutti layup, to pull within 16, 52-34, with 16:55 left. Rooke-Ley connected on a triple 23 seconds later and the Williams lead stretched to 61-36 at 14:17. Casey McGraw made it a 19-point game with 11 minutes left but the Spartans couldn't get any closer the rest of the way as the Ephs finished with the 22-point victory. 

Castleton concludes its regular season on Saturday when the team travels to Green Mountain at 1 pm.
