Box Score 2 CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans beat Green Mountain 3-1 before falling to Colby-Sawyer in straight sets to conclude conference play on Saturday at Green Mountain College.
Castleton opened the day with a victory over the Eagles to improve to 4-1 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Spartans took the first set 25-15, but dropped the second 25-21. They rebounded to win the final two, 25-20 and 25-14.
Cassidy Tedeschi and Kimberly Jackson led the way for the Spartans by posting nine kills each while Amanda Chambers followed with eight kills. Chambers and Brittany Brayman powered the defense with 17 digs while Kristi Lawless also contributed 16 digs. Alex Madsen engineered the offense with 12 assists.
Green Mountain (1-19, 1-4 NAC) received a game-high 12 kills from Hayley Provost who also led the Eagles with 16 digs and two solo blocks. Torie Cowell and Aixa Lujan helped supplement the offense with nine and eight kills, respectively. Sandra Parra and Megan Roy directed the offense handing out 29 assists between them with Parra also registering six service aces.
The Spartans concluded their day with a hard-fought three-set loss to Colby-Sawyer, falling by scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-19 to drop to 4-2 in conference play – the third best mark in the NAC.
Brayman led the offense and tallied 11 kills and eight digs while swinging at a .375 clip. Kaylee Pratt contributed five kills in support of the Spartans' offense. Chambers and Lawless each recorded seven digs defensively while Cassidy Tedeschi and J'Leen Diaz each notched six digs. Madsen garnered 16 assists as she directed the offense.
Castleton concludes the regular season by traveling to Norwich on Wednesday for a 7 pm match.
