Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – The Castleton field hockey team dropped a North Atlantic Conference matchup to the University of Maine-Farmington on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 6-0.
The loss drops the Spartans to 4-11 overall, with a record of 1-4 in NAC play. The Beavers move to 9-4 on the season and 4-1 in conference action with the victory.
Meeghan Doris stopped 19 shots for Castleton, while Sarah Wells and Emily Hudson each put two shots on goal for the Spartans.
UMF split their scoring up evenly by half, tallying three goals in each the first and the second stanzas. Jenessa Talarico recorded five points on two goals and one assist, while Sarita Crandall assisted on two goals. Rebecca Young, Emmah Spahr, Andrea Stemm, and Mara Balboni also scored goals for the Beavers in the contest.
The Beavers outshot the Spartans, 31-8, and won the penalty corner battle, 13-8.
Doris stopped 19 shots in net, including 13 in the second half. UMF goalie Patty Smith recorded five saves to earn the shutout win.
The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday evening, when they host Rensselaer to close out the regular season. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
