Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton field hockey team dropped a North Atlantic Conference matchup to Husson on Saturday evening by a final score of 4-1.
The loss moves the Spartans to 4-9 overall, and 1-3 in NAC play. The Eagles now sit at 6-6 on the season, and remain unbeaten in conference action at 4-0.
Haley Spittle scored the lone Spartan goal, while Meeghan Doris made 14 saves in the defeat.
The Eagles got on the board early, when Hanna Jordan collected a loose ball in the shooting circle and scored at 13:33 of the first half. Libby Kain would double the Eagles' lead to 2-0 when she took a pass from Mikayla Toth and found the back of the cage just 10 minutes later. Taylor Lovely would extend the lead to three goals before the end of the half for the Eagles, scoring unassisted with less than five to play before the break.
The Eagles struck again with less than nine minutes remaining in the contest when Elizabeth Terry took a cross in front of the cage from Jordan and buried it to give the visiting squad a 4-0 lead.
Spittle would get the Spartans on the board with less than five to play when she took a pass from Rachel Holland and fired a shot past the Husson goalkeeper to make it 4-1.
Doris stopped 14 of the 18 shots she faced, while Kaitlin Dolloff made five saves for the Eagles.
Husson held a 22-15 shot advantage, while also holding a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners.
The Spartans are back in action on Wednesday evening at 4:00 p.m. when they host No. 10 Skidmore.
