Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton's men's soccer team maintained its perfect mark in the North Atlantic Conference this afternoon with a 3-0 victory over the Maine-Farmington Beavers at Leib Field.
The Spartans outshot the opposition 13-5, while also holding the edge in corner kicks by four. Jake Tietgens opened the scoring just 15 minutes into play before Derek Blouin and Blake Hart added goals of their own to ensure Castleton's spot atop the NAC standings.
The squad has now won eight of its last ten matches and stands at 9-3-1 overall, including a perfect 5-0 spot in the conference. The Beavers, meanwhile, are winless in their last six games with a 3-6-2 (1-3-1 NAC) record.
Tietgens maintained his stellar start to his senior season this afternoon, as he tallied his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 15th minute of play to hand Castleton an early 1-0 lead. Solo Felekeni picked up an assist on the play after his through ball allowed Tietgens to get into open space and find the back of the net.
The away side was at it again just over ten minutes later when Blouin grabbed his second goal of the season. Paul Phillips provided the service with a cross into the box that Blouin headed home to double the Spartan advantage.
Hart added an insurance goal in the 52nd minute when he fired a shot through the keeper's hands for his fourth score of the year, securing a 3-0 Spartan victory.
In net, Amir Pasic produced his sixth shutout of the season after playing all 90 minutes. The senior keeper has anchored a defensive unit that has produced eight shutouts in its last ten games while conceding just two goals in that span. Matt Wilson suffered his sixth loss of the season after producing three saves in today's contest.
Castleton finishes its weekend road trip tomorrow afternoon when it squares off with the Thomas Terriers in conference action at Smith Field.
