Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team dropped their first match in almost three weeks this afternoon, falling at Lyndon St. by a final of 5-4.
The Spartans now move to 8-2 on the season, including a 4-2 record in NEAC East play. The win is just the second of the year for the Hornets, who now sit at 2-8 overall and 1-5 in conference.
All five participants for Castleton played at a higher position than usual, with Jackie Lisak leading the way at the No. 1 singles spot. Lisak took down Tina Boyce 6-0, 6-0 in her first top-flight match of the year, while Dianne Benedicto cruised to victory in the two spot, 6-0, 6-2. Kirsten Kruk grabbed a win in third flight singles, winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Lyndon's Alexa Richard and Carina Alden took fourth and fifth-flight singles from Gabrielle Welch and Denise Clavijo in straight sets, while the shorthanded Spartans were forced to forfeit No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Lisak and Kruk teamed up for the first time this season to take down Boyce and Greta Larson by a final tally of 8-0. Bennedicto and Welch fell at No. 2 singles by a score of 8-2 to Nicole Jones and Maynard. Castleton forfeited third-flight doubles.
The Spartans are back in action on Saturday when they wrap up their regular season conference schedule at Johnson St. Match time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
