O'Sullivan Surpasses 1000 as Spartans Beat Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine – Senior Meghan O'Sullivan scored a team-high 17 points, including the 1000th of her career to lift the Spartans to a 70-51 victory over Thomas on Saturday afternoon. 

O'Sullivan helped give Castleton a 41-18 halftime lead with nine points and also became the 14th women's basketball player to surpass 1000 points in her career. She added eight more in the second half go with three rebounds and two steals as the team improved to a perfect 10-0 in the North Atlantic Conference and 14-3 overall. 

The Spartans finished the game shooting 43.1 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from downtown. Thomas, meanwhile made 34.6 percent of its shots and outrebounded Castleton 40-35 but dropped to 2-15 and 1-9 in the NAC. 

Lindsay Sabo was also in double figures for the Spartans with ten points and three rebounds before fouling out while Jade Desroches recorded 11 points, six assists and three steals. 

Katie McAllister led the Terriers with 20 points and ten rebounds while Jordan Agger-Barns added 14 points, seven rebounds and one steal. 

Sabo drilled a shot from beyond the arc just nine seconds into the game as the Spartans opened on a 12-0 run in the first five minutes. An O'Sullivan jumper made it 18-2 at 11:04 and Ali Jones extended the Castleton lead to 20, 26-6, on a triple with 7:47 left. The Spartans stretched their lead to 26 on a three-point play by Amanda Beatty with 59 seconds remaining in the half before finishing the period with a 41-18 advantage. 

Castleton extended its lead to 47-21 in the first four minutes into the second half on a layup by Makayla Farrara and then made it a 30-point game on a three from Lauren Miles at 11:57. The team subbed liberally over the final ten minutes on the way to the 19-point victory. 

The Spartans return to action on Friday when they host Husson at 7:30 pm in Glenbrook Gym.
