Box Score LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Spartans jumped out to a 28-point halftime lead and put four players in double figures on the way to an 84-68 victory over Lyndon on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Castleton shot an impressive 53.4 percent from the floor and connected on seven triples while outrebounding the Hornets 33-30 to move to 11-3 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. Lyndon nearly matched the Spartans by shooting 52.7 percent from the floor but went 1-for-5 from three as the team dropped to 3-10 and 2-6 in the conference.
Bryanna DuPont was impressive for the Spartans, shooting 5-for-6 from the floor for 12 points while pulling down ten rebounds and dishing off three assists. Jade Desroches scored a team-high 21 points with four rebounds, four assists and four steals while Meghan O'Sullivan chipped in with 12 points and two rebounds. Ali Jones was also in double figures with 11 points and three assists.
Three players scored in double figures for the Hornets, led by Marley Harmon with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists. Sarah Cornell added 12 points, five rebounds and two steals while Abby Salvadore added ten points.
Castleton jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the opening five minutes but the Hornets closed back with three at 16-13. A 12-4 run pushed the Spartans to a 30-17 advantage with 5:54 left in the half. Later in the period Castleton scored 12 straight and then Jones connected on a triple at the end of the half to give the team a 52-24 lead.
Lyndon came out firing in the second half and cut the deficit to 56-36 with 16:48 remaining in the game. A 6-0 Castleton run pushed it back to a 24-point game with 11 minutes left and then a Lauren Miles triple gave the Spartans a 74-48 advantage at 5:49. Castleton subbed liberally over the last five minutes to finish with a 16-point victory.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they host New England College at 7:30 pm with first place in the conference on the line.
