Spartans Take Down Lyndon 84-72

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Spartans put four players in double figures and got a career-high 22 points from Pavin Parrish to secure an 84-72 victory over Lyndon on the road on Saturday afternoon. 

As a team Castleton shot 47.2 percent from the floor and went 10-for-20 from beyond the arc to improve while making 24 free throws to improve to 6-7 and 4-3 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Hornets connected on just 33.3 percent of their shots and went 11-for-37 from downtown as they fell to 3-11 and 2-6 in conference play. 

Parrish scored his 22 points on 5-for-10 shooting and went 11-for-13 from the charity stripe while also posting four assists, three rebounds and two steals to lead a balanced scoring attack. Rob Coloutti was right behind him with 21 points and five triples while Chad Copeland had 19 points, ten rebounds and three blocks. 

David Johnson posted 17 points, six assists and four rebounds while Avery King came off the bench to score 20 points. Jose Berroa added ten points and four rebounds while Robert Alers pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds. 

The teams traded points early and a Berroa three actually gave Lyndon a 7-6 lead at 15:57. The Spartans responded with a 14-0 run, punctuated by a triple from Coloutti with 11:24 left. Castleton then extended their lead to 29-15 on three free throws from Doug Krouse with 9:03 remaining. Four minutes late a free throw by Mushandu pushed it to 37-18. The Hornets made a late run to close the gap to 45-31 at the half. 

Coloutti hit a three to start off the second and later back-to-back triples from the junior extended the lead to 59-37 with 14:38 left. The Spartans continued to run and made it a 25-point game with 11:05 left, but Lyndon eventually closed it to 11 points late in the second. However, Castleton made its free throws late to secure the 12-point victory. 

Castleton returns to action on Tuesday when the team hosts New England College at 5:30 pm.
