Box Score Cobleskill, N.Y. – Castleton nearly pulled off the comeback victory on Wednesday evening but came up just short in the team's 3-2 defeat at the hands of Cobleskill.
The Spartans took the first set 25-17 but fell 25-16 and 25-14 in the second and third sets. Castleton came back with a 25-22 victory in the fourth but couldn't complete the victory as the Fighting Tigers took the final set 15-13.
Sophomore J'Leen Diaz had a solid overall contest with nine digs, eight kills and two aces up front while Kristi Lawless added a team-high 15 digs and three aces. Brittany Brayman and Kaylee Pratt each chipped in with six kills. Alex Madsen came through with a team-high 13 assists and also recorded five digs.
For Cobleskill, Raven Worthing finished second on the team with 18 digs and a team-high nine kills. Sarah Ruggles dished off a team-high 29 assists in addition to seven digs. Libero Kim Cordova recorded a match-high 32 digs.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday when they travel to Southern Maine to face both Maine-Presque Isle and host Southern Maine.
