CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton improved to 3-4-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) after beating the University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) 6-0 on Sunday at Spartan Stadium.

The Spartans put on a dominating performance at the Spartan Stadium on Sunday, outshooting their opponents by 31. Castleton also had six different goal scorers in the victory and eight players record points.

It took the Spartans just 11 minutes to grab a lead when Dameon Young notched his first goal of the year. Owen Fellows rocketed a shot towards the net that forced UMF's keeper Ronnie Morales to make a diving stop. Young then pounced on the rebound, knocking it into the net to make it 1-0.

The Beavers nearly responded a minute later when a defensive lapse gave UMF a three on one advantage. Ryan Fairbanks had the ball at the top of the box, passing it to Austin Dooley on the far wing. Dooley dribbled in and fired a shot that sailed just over the cross bar and out of play.

Jake Tietgens had back-to-back chances late in the first half, producing two shots on target. However, Morales made a diving save to stop the first effort, and Tietgens second shot was blocked in front of the net and cleared from the box by a UMF defender.

Five minutes into the second half, the Spartans doubled their lead courtesy of Fellows' third goal of the season. Fellows collected Spencer Dandurand's cross from the far wing and fired the shot past the keeper to give Castleton a 2-0 lead.

In the 70th minute, Castleton extended its lead to three on Alex McCormick's second goal of 2014. Vinny Addonisio put a shot on goal, forcing Morales to knock the ball away from the net. McCormick picked up the rebound and tapped it in to give the Spartans a 3-0 advantage.

Tietgens found the net for the first time this season in the 77th minute to extend Castleton's lead to four. Bryce Kaler played a through ball up the middle of the field to Tietgens who gathered it near the box and one-timed a shot past the keeper.

Two minutes later, Seth Wilmott provided the fifth goal of the match when his corner kick was deflected into the net, marking his first career collegiate goal.

Vinny Addonisio finished the scoring in the 88th minute to push the Castleton lead to 6-0. Addonisio dribbled the ball down the near flank past a defender and slipped the ball under the keeper into the bottom corner of the net.

Dan Palker improved to 3-4-1 on the season after making two saves in 77 minutes of action, while freshman Aaron Parker made his second appearance in net this in 12 minutes of action.

In the loss, Morales recorded 12 saves and allowed five goals in 81 minutes of action, moving his record to 1-5-1 in 2014. Matt Wilson made his third appearance of the season, allowing one goal with one save in eight minutes of action.

Castleton returns to action on Wednesday when they host Keene St. for a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
