Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans women's tennis team continued its stellar early season play on Wednesday, improving to 4-1 on the season in a 5-4 win over Sage.
The Spartans, who picked up their third consecutive victory, were put in an unfamiliar position by losing in the one, two and three flight singles matches. However, the team was able to overcome those setbacks and pick up an important non-conference victory.
Shannon Hagerty was the top performer for the Spartans in singles play, winning in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. With her third consecutive victory, the freshman improved her season record to 3-1 in singles action. Senior Kaydeen Juaire was victorious in the No. 5 singles slot (6-4, 6-1), while Ruby Bushey added another crucial point for Castleton, winning the sixth flight singles match 7-5, 6-4.
In doubles action, Olga McIntyre teamed with Sara Novenstern to pick up an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 slot, while Juaire and Taylor Reynolds maintained their perfect doubles record (2-0) with an 8-6 victory.
Castleton's women's tennis team returns to action this Saturday when they play Plymouth St. at the Holderness School. The match begins at 3:30 pm.
