No. 6 Skidmore Shuts Out Spartans 12-0

CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton was overmatched in their opening contest of the year as the team was shut down by No. 6 Skidmore 12-0 on Friday evening at Wagner Park. 

The Thoroughbreds held the Spartans without a shot in the contest while scoring four times in the first ten minutes to open their season with a 1-0 mark. Castleton, meanwhile, dropped to 0-1 with the loss. 

Skidmore fired 54 total shots and put 40 on the cage while also racking up 16 corners in a dominating performance.  Three players recorded at least four points for the Thoroughbreds, led by Dani DeGregory who finished with three goals and two assists. Sam Skott added four scores while Krista Lamoreaux dished off three assists and also scored once. 

Skott scored twice in the opening 3:22, with goals from DeGregory, Lamoreaux making it 4-0 7:46 into the contest. Skott and DeGregory pushed the lead to 6-0 just five minutes later and Skidmore didn't look back on the way to taking a 10-0 lead at the break. 

Despite the lopsided score the Spartans did receive a pair of strong performances in net. Senior Jess Galatioto earned the start and played the first half, giving up ten goals while still managing to make 15 saves. Meeghan Doris played the final 35 minutes and allowed a pair of goals while stopping 11 shots. 

Castleton returns to action on Tuesday, Sep. 2 when the Spartans host Keene St. for a 7 pm contest.
