Newport, R.I - It took 65 minutes for the Seahawks and Spartans to settle their differences. Even after three periods and an overtime, nothing seperated the two squads as they skated to a 0-0 tie on Saturday night.

Paula Stephens made 48 saves in the draw, marking a new season-high for the Castleton backstop. The draw marks her second shutout of the season. Colleen Marcik made 22 saves for the Seahawks.

In the first period, Castleton and Salve Regina skated to a scoreless tie. Paula Stephens made 11 saves through the first frame, stoning every attempt the Seahawks threw on net. In the second, the Spartans struggled to generate offense, only managing to put three shots on goal. Stephens stuffed seven more shots in the second frame.

In the third, Castleton was able to muster six shots on goal, but allowed 13. After 60 minutes of action, the Spartans had been outshot 45-20, but were still even at 0-0 with Stephens' work in net.

The overtime period saw the Spartans jump out to an early shot advantage, ripping a pair of shots on Marcik, but she turned both away. Midway through the extra time, Hannah Wright was whistled for a hooking penalty and put the Seahawks on the power play. Salve Regina put three shots on goal but Stephens rejected all of them.

Michaela Chiuccariello finished with a team-high eight shots on goal for the Seahawks, while Sarah Markey and Taylor Shepherd each notched seven. Castleton's Anna Daniels and Nicoline Jensen each finished with four shots on goal to lead the Spartans.

Castleton moves to 11-8-2 on the season, with a 6-4-2 mark within the ECAC East. The Spartans will return to action on Friday, Feb. 7 when they host Southern Maine.
