Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans had leads in each of the first two sets, but the powerful Norwich attack was just too much as Castleton fell to the Cadets 3-0 on Wednesday evening in Glenbrook Gym.
Norwich hit .279 for the match with 44 kills over the three sets and recorded ten aces as the team improved to 13-12 overall. The Spartans had 24 kills, but committed 17 errors and hit .095 as they finished their season with a 9-14 record.
The Cadets jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the opening set but Castleton eventually came back to grab a 13-12 advantage. Norwich responded with a 9-3 run to push its lead to 22-15. The Spartans countered with a 6-1 streak but it wasn't enough as they dropped the set 25-21.
In the second set the Cadets again pulled away and eventually took an 18-10 lead on a Castleton attack error. After getting down 21-15, the Spartans countered with a 7-2 run to pull within one, 23-22. Norwich then took the final two points for the 25-22 win. The final set was all Cadets as they opened with a 12-2 lead. They didn't look back on the way to a 25-14 victory.
Amanda Chambers hit a match-best .677 with 11 kills on 15 attempts while also tying for the team lead with 11 digs. J'Leen Diaz added 11 digs and four kills while Shelby Smyth dished off a team-high nine assists. Kristi Lawless added five digs and a pair of aces in the loss.
Kelsey Mancini and Corinne Baita paced the Norwich offense with ten kills apiece while hitting over .300. Baita also added six digs and two block assists while Alama Turpin chipped in with seven kills, seven digs and four aces. Katherine Crane dished off 36 assists in the match.
